Fire breaks out in container truck cabin on Ghodbunder Road in Thane

A minor fire broke out in the cabin of a container truck near Manpada Bridge on Ghodbunder Road in Thane West during the early hours of Saturday, civic officials said.

According to the Thane Municipal Corporation's Disaster Management Cell, information about the incident was received from Balkum Fire Station at around 5:40 am on May 9. The fire occurred near the Dosti Imperia building in the Manpada area.

Officials said the container truck, an Ashok Leyland vehicle, was travelling from Nhava Sheva to Silvassa when the fire reportedly started due to a short circuit in the cabin section.

Fire brought under control

Fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot with one fire engine and a rescue vehicle soon after the alert was received. Traffic police officials also reached the location to assist with traffic management and emergency response operations.

The fire was completely extinguished by around 5:50 am, officials said, adding that the situation was brought under control quickly, preventing the flames from spreading further.

No casualties or injuries reported

Authorities confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Alam, and the owner, identified as Kuber, were reported safe.

Traffic movement affected briefly

Following the fire, traffic movement on the busy Ghodbunder Road stretch was briefly affected as emergency personnel carried out firefighting operations.

Officials said efforts were underway with the assistance of traffic police personnel to shift the container truck to the side of the road and restore normal traffic flow in the area.

Parked two-wheelers damaged in early morning fire in Thane

In another incident, three parked two-wheelers were damaged after a fire broke out near Bhaskar Tower in the Kopri area of Thane East during the early hours of Saturday, officials said.

According to the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC), the incident was reported at around 4:19 am. Following the alert, firefighters reached the spot with a fire engine and began efforts to control the blaze.

Officials said the fire was completely extinguished by around 4:34 am. No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.

The fire affected three parked two-wheelers, including a TVS Jupiter, a Honda Activa and a Triumph motorcycle.

Authorities said the TVS Jupiter bearing registration number MH 04 MJ 8277, owned by Suresh Patil, was completely gutted in the fire and suffered extensive damage.

A Honda Activa with registration number MH 41 M 2233, owned by Sanket Chavan, and a Triumph motorcycle bearing registration number 24 BH 0352 P, owned by Shubham Chavan, sustained partial damage.

Disaster management officials confirmed that the situation was brought under control promptly and no nearby structures were affected by the blaze.

The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined and further investigation is underway, officials said.
