A fire broke out in the pantry car of an empty Mumbai-Howrah train rake at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) yard in Mumbai early Wednesday, officials said.
No casualties were reported in the incident, according to a Central Railway spokesperson.
The fire broke out in the pantry car at around 3.40 am, following which the fire brigade was alerted. Firefighters reached the spot at 4.01 am and brought the blaze under control by 4.05 am, the spokesperson said.
"The rake was empty, and no passenger was present or injured in the incident," he said.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
CSMT, located in south Mumbai, is a major railway terminal from where several long-distance and local train services originate.
In a separate incident, a major fire broke out at a chair manufacturing unit in the Army Industrial Area in Gotheghar in Navi Mumbai but no casualties were reported and the flames were doused after ten hours, an official said.
According to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Disaster Management Cell, the call regarding the blaze was received at 2:40 PM on Monday.
Firefighting operations continued through the night and the flames were completely extinguished by 1 AM on Tuesday, the official said.
A total of 16 fire tenders and water bowsers were dispatched to the scene from various fire stations, he said.
The unit is located in Hamdhan Park along the Mumbra-Panvel Highway.
Raw materials and equipment including plastic, foam, chemicals, thinner drums, rexine, electrical wiring, fans, chairs, air conditioners, furniture, tin sheds, and other office equipment were destroyed in the fire, the official said.
Meanwhile, a major fire broke out at an office of the Bank of India on the sixth floor of a building in Maharashtra's Pune city on Tuesday, officials said.
There were no reports of any casualties so far, they said. The incident occurred at 10.15 am at the public sector bank's premises on Laxmi Road.
Seven firefighting vehicles were rushed to the spot, and the blaze was later doused, the officials said. The cause of the fire was under investigation, they added.
