A portion of the balcony of a two-storey building collapsed in Maharashtra's Thane district, prompting civic authorities to evacuate all four families residing in the structure, an official said on Wednesday, reported PTI.
No one was injured in the incident, which occurred at Hina Cottage, in the Mumbra area on Tuesday night, officials said.
Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell of Thane Municipal Corporation, said the slab of the first-floor balcony of the building collapsed, while the remaining portion of the structure was found to be in a dangerous condition, reported PTI.
"The building has been declared unsafe and was evacuated as a precautionary measure. All four families residing there have been advised to stay temporarily with their relatives," Tadvi told PTI.
Meanwhile, civic staff responded to two separate incidents involving the collapse of a retaining wall and a land subsidence in Thane city, with no injuries reported in either case, reported PTI.
The first incident was reported on Tuesday evening near Manisha Building at Bhanjewadi on Gavand Path in Naupada, where a portion of land caved in alongside an excavation being carried out for a redevelopment project, Tadvi said, reported PTI.
He said a retaining wall and metal sheets at the site were also found to be in a dangerous condition.
In the second incident, a retaining wall at the TMT Bus Depot in Wagle Estate collapsed, while a nearby tree was found in a hazardous condition, the official said, reported PTI.
"The Tree Authority (of the civic body) has been informed about the dangerous tree, and it will take further action to remove the risk," he added.
In another incident, a 46-year-old man was electrocuted to death after allegedly coming into contact with a live power cable while in an inebriated condition in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Wednesday, reported PTI.
Dharmendra Ramkisan Gupta lost his life at his home located in the Murbad Road locality of Kalyan on the night of June 28, they said, reported PTI.
Citing the preliminary investigation, police Gupta returned home drunk and allegedly pulled the power supply wire connected to a refrigerator. The wire snapped, and the live broken cable came into contact with him, causing a severe electric shock, an official said, reported PTI.
Family members rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead, he said. The body has been sent to a government hospital for a post-mortem.
A case of accidental death has been registered at Mahatma Phule police station, and a probe is underway, an official said.
