The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has completed the removal of 604 structures in Amarnagar that were affected by the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road project, an official statement said on Friday.
The Mumbai civic body on Friday removed the final 215 structures in the area, clearing the way for further work on the major road project connecting Mumbai's western and eastern suburbs, it said.
The demolition drive was carried out by the civic body's T Ward on October 16, 2026. The BMC said the clearance would help speed up the project, which aims to ease traffic congestion in Mumbai.
According to the BMC, around 604 structures in Amarnagar were affected by the construction of the link road project.
The civic body decided to remove them in two phases.
In the first phase, 389 structures were removed by May 31, 2026. The remaining 215 structures were cleared on Friday, completing the demolition process in the T Ward area.
The affected structures included residential and commercial premises. The civic body said action was taken against both eligible and ineligible structures.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of the Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Circle 6 and the leadership of the T Ward assistant commissioner.
More than 30 BMC engineers and 50 staff members were deployed for the drive. The civic body used four poclain excavators, four JCB machines and 10 dumpers to remove the structures.
A heavy police presence was also maintained during the operation, officials said.
With the demolition work complete, the BMC is now clearing the debris from the site. The civic body said it was working to make the land available in time for the next stages of the project.
The Goregaon-Mulund Link Road is 12.20 km long and is being developed in four phases. The project includes road construction, an underground tunnel and flyovers.
The link road project is intended to improve connectivity between Mumbai's western and eastern suburbs and reduce traffic congestion. The completion of the clearance work in Amarnagar is expected to facilitate further development of the corridor.
