IndiGo and Akasa Air on Wednesday issued travel advisories for passengers departing from Mumbai as heavy rainfall disrupted flight operations in the financial capital.
IndiGo advised travellers to reach the airport early due to traffic congestion in several parts of the city.
"Travel Advisory: Heavy traffic has been reported on several roads across Delhi and Mumbai, particularly on key routes leading to the airport. If you are travelling today, please consider planning ahead and leaving earlier than usual. For your convenience, real-time updates are available on our app and website to help you stay informed about your flight status https://bit.ly/31paVKQ. Our airport teams are fully prepared to support and guide you once you arrive. Your journey is important to us, and we are here to help at every step," IndiGo said in a post on X.
Meanwhile, Akasa Air also urged passengers to leave early amid torrential downpours.
"Travel Update: Due to heavy rainfall in certain parts of Mumbai and Delhi, we anticipate slow moving traffic and congestion on roads leading to the airport. To ensure a seamless travel experience, we request you to plan for additional travel time to reach the airport well in time for your flight. Please check your flight status here: https://bit.ly/qpfltsts. We realize that this may inconvenience your travel plans and seek your understanding," Akasa Air said in a post on X.
Mumbai witnessed heavy rainfall on Wednesday morning, with forecasts indicating that the wet spell will persist through the week.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the city and nearby districts, cautioning about heavy rains and strong winds.
According to the IMD, Mumbai and its suburbs will likely experience generally cloudy skies and intermittent heavy showers. Wind speeds may touch 40-50 kmph in some localities.
High tide is expected at 11:09 AM with a height of 4.40 meters, followed by another high tide at 10:57 PM measuring 3.75 meters. The low tide will occur at 5:10 PM at 1.84 meters, while the next low tide will be at 5:06 AM on July 24, with a height of 0.50 meters.
Rainfall recorded between 8 AM on July 22 and 8 AM on July 23 stood at 47.77 mm in the city, 33.10 mm in the eastern suburbs, and 53.92 mm in the western suburbs.
