The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority's (JNPA) 'Digital Twin platform' project aimed at enhancing vessel traffic, cargo and logistics management.
The project will create a real-time digital replica of the port's assets, infrastructure and operations, helping improve monitoring, predictive maintenance and data-driven decision-making.
In an official statement, the JNPA said that it has awarded a work order worth Rs 92.95 crore to Softtech Engineers Limited for implementing a Digital Twin platform aimed at improving port operations and facilitating trade.
The platform is expected to help the port monitor operations, identify potential issues and support data-based decision-making.
JNPA Chairperson Gaurav Dayal, IAS, said, "The core functionalities of the Digital Twin platform are targeted for implementation by February 2027, while the complete platform is expected to become operational by February 2028."
The system will provide a digital representation of port infrastructure and activities, allowing officials to monitor operations in real time and make more informed decisions.
JNPA Deputy Chairperson Ravish Kumar Singh said, "The Digital Twin would bring real-time data and predictive intelligence into a single operational environment."
The platform is expected to support vessel traffic management, improve cargo and logistics flows, help reduce vehicular congestion and enable predictive maintenance of critical infrastructure.
One of the key features of the project will be predictive maintenance of port infrastructure. This is aimed at reducing downtime, improving asset performance and extending the life of critical infrastructure.
The Digital Twin will also support safety and security through enhanced surveillance, monitoring and incident-management capabilities.
The project will also monitor green cover, air quality and water quality at the port.
According to JNPA, these capabilities are intended to support its sustainability objectives and strengthen environmental monitoring.
The platform will also provide integrated operational dashboards, predictive analytics and data-driven insights to support strategic planning and decision-making.
The Digital Twin is also expected to assist with regulatory compliance and reporting by enabling automated monitoring and reporting of statutory requirements.
JNPA said the project is expected to improve operational efficiency, asset utilisation, environmental sustainability, safety and overall service delivery.
