The BJP government has taken yet another step to appease the disgruntled Maratha community by nominating its influential leader Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje of Kolhapur.

Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje

The nomination done by the President came late Saturday evening. Ruling party is authorised to pick and choose candidates from various fields.

Sambhaji Raje, who belongs to a royal family of descendents of Chhatrapati Shivaji, has been leading an agitation for demanding a quota for the Marathas.

With a considerable clout, the royal is expected to add to the BJP's strength in southern Maharashtra, where NCP and Congress have been dominant.

Sambhaji Raje will get a seat that Pranav Pandya, Head of Gayatri Parivar, had declined to accept last month.
