Two people were safely rescued after a lift at the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) headquarters developed a technical snag and got stuck between two floors on Tuesday evening.
According to the civic body, the incident occurred at around 7 pm, when Lift No. 8 at the NMMC headquarters suddenly malfunctioned and came to a halt between two floors. The two occupants trapped inside were rescued safely, and no injuries were reported.
Following the incident, the civic administration carried out a technical inspection of the lift. Preliminary findings revealed that the malfunction was caused by a sudden fault in the lift's control circuit.
NMMC officials said the issue was addressed immediately, and the occupants were rescued without harm. The civic body clarified that the incident was purely technical in nature.
To prevent similar incidents, the NMMC has directed the agency responsible for the lift's maintenance to strengthen preventive maintenance measures and conduct more rigorous inspections of the equipment.
The civic body said the maintenance agency has been instructed to take all necessary steps to prevent the recurrence of such technical failures and ensure the safe operation of lifts at the headquarters.
The incident briefly caused concern among staff and visitors at the civic headquarters. However, normalcy was restored soon after the rescue operation and technical inspection were completed, and no disruption to the functioning of the headquarters was reported.
