The Maharashtra government on Tuesday approved special incentives for five mega and ultra-mega industrial projects involving investments worth Rs 89,731 crore. The projects are expected to generate around 20,000 direct and indirect jobs across the state.
As per an official statement, the decision was taken at a meeting of the Industry Department's cabinet subcommittee chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, as per PTI.
The statement from the Maharashtra Government further added that the projects relate to high-technology and future-oriented sectors such as coal gasification and downstream derivatives, solar cell modules, ingots, wafers and panels, electric steel, PET tyre cord and synthetic graphite anode material.
The projects are expected to accelerate industrial growth in regions including Vidarbha, Marathwada and Nashik, while strengthening Maharashtra's manufacturing ecosystem.
Moreover, the approvals were granted under the state's industrial policy and package scheme of incentives aimed at attracting large-scale investments, promoting employment generation, and creating industrial infrastructure.
Maharashtra Chief Minister, while hailing the growing industrial infrastructure across the state, highlighted, "The projects will help expand the state's high-technology manufacturing sector and create opportunities for ancillary industries and supply chains," as per PTI.
According to the government, the investments would also encourage innovation and research and development, while creating new opportunities for small and medium enterprises. Additionally, local youth would benefit from training and skilling initiatives linked to the projects, improving employability in emerging technology sectors.
The Maharashtra Government on Monday also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Aggreko India in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai.
Highlighting the details of the MoU, CM Fadnavis said that the state government would provide Aggreko with an enabling operational environment along with all necessary support to ensure the project's timely execution.
Fadnavis said, "Pune is rapidly emerging as a major hub for Global Capability Centres (GCCs), and we warmly welcome Aggreko to what is now becoming the GCC capital of India."
The Chief Minister further added that the Maharashtra Government would extend full cooperation to the company in securing permits, registrations, approvals, incentives, and other administrative clearances in line with existing state policies.
Under the agreement, Aggreko will establish a state-of-the-art Global Engineering and Manufacturing Centre at Phulgaon in Pune district, with construction expected to begin later this year. The facility is set to become the company's largest global engineering and manufacturing centre outside Scotland.
