The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced its list of candidates for the Maharashtra Legislative Council biennial elections and a bye-elections 2026.
The BJP has fielded 10 candidates for the Maharashtra Legislative Council biennial elections.
The party's nominees are:
- Wardha-Chandrapur-Gadchiroli: Arun Lakhani
- Bhandara-Gondia: Avinash Brahmankar
- Amravati: Pravin Pote Patil
- Sangli-Satara: Dhairyashil Kadam
- Solapur: Rajendra Raut
- Ahilyanagar: Prajakt Tanpure
- Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar-Jalna: Suhas Shirsat
- Nanded: Amar Rajurkar
- Dharashiv-Latur-Beed: Basavraj Patil
- Jalgaon: Nandkishore Mahajan
For the Maharashtra Legislative Council bye-election from the Nagpur Local Authorities Constituency, the BJP has nominated Dr Rajiv Potdar.
The announcement comes as political parties intensify preparations for the upcoming Legislative Council elections, which are expected to witness keen contests in several regions of Maharashtra.
Meanwhile, the Opposition Shiv Sena (UBT) on Sunday announced the nomination of Vivek Navandar and Devyani Patil Dongaonkar for the upcoming state council polls from the Parbhani-Hingoli and Aurangabad-Jalna local bodies constituencies, respectively, reported the PTI.
The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve, in a post on X, said that party chief Uddhav Thackeray has nominated Navandar, who heads the party's Parbhani city unit.
Parbhani is the only municipal corporation that has a mayor from the Shiv Sena (UBT).
In another post on late Sunday night, Danve said the party nominated Devyani Patil Dongaonkar for the Aurangabad-Jalna local bodies constituency.
Dongaonkar is a former zilla parishad president.
Elections to 16 legislative council seats from the Local Self-Government bodies and a bypoll from the Nagpur self-government body are scheduled for June 18.
June 1 is the last date for filing nominations for the legislative council polls. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on June 2, and the last date for withdrawal is June 4. Votes will be counted on June 22.
The 16 local self-government bodies constituencies going to the polls include Solapur, Ahmednagar, Thane, Jalgaon, Sangli-Satara, Nanded, Yavatmal, Pune, Bhandara-Gondia, Raigad-Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, Nashik, Wardha-Chandrapur-Gadchiroli, Amravati, Osmanabad-Latur-Beed, Parbhani-Hingoli, and Aurangabad-Jalna.
