In view of the relentless rainfall lashing the city and prioritising student safety, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has declared a holiday for all schools under its jurisdiction on Saturday, July 4.
The decision was taken following directions issued by the Thane District Collector and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, along with instructions from the NMMC Commissioner, as heavy rain continues to disrupt normal life in the satellite city.
The order applies to all schools, irrespective of their management or medium of instruction. The civic body's Education Department has directed all schools to implement the order immediately and ensure that parents, students and teaching staff are informed without delay.
The announcement comes as Navi Mumbai continues to witness intense rainfall, leading to waterlogging in several low-lying areas, traffic disruptions and an increased risk of flooding. Civic authorities have been monitoring the situation round the clock, while emergency response teams remain on alert to respond to rain-related incidents.
In an official circular issued on Friday, NMMC Deputy Commissioner (Education) Sanghratna Khillare said the holiday had been declared purely as a precautionary measure to safeguard students. Schools have also been directed to extend full cooperation in implementing the order and to prioritise children's safety.
The civic administration has appealed to parents and residents to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall and to stay updated through official advisories.
Citizens have also been urged to exercise caution near waterlogged roads, drains and other vulnerable locations.
With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting continued rainfall across the region, authorities are closely monitoring the weather situation and have assured that further decisions will be taken based on evolving conditions.
