The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued red and orange alerts across several parts of Maharashtra, warning of intense rainfall, thunderstorms and squally winds over the next 24 hours.
The IMD's Regional Meteorological Centre has cautioned that active weather systems are likely to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall, particularly across coastal districts, Western Ghats and parts of northern Maharashtra. Rainfall intensity is expected to gradually reduce, with light to moderate showers likely towards the weekend.
A red alert has been issued for vulnerable areas including Palghar and parts of Pune and Nashik Ghats, where extremely heavy rainfall is possible at isolated locations.
Palghar is expected to witness intense showers accompanied by strong winds reaching 30-70 kmph, while Pune Ghats may experience wind speeds of up to 60-70 kmph.
The Nashik Ghats are also under heightened alert, with forecasts indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall and isolated extremely heavy spells.
Districts including Thane, Raigad and Nandurbar are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall along with strong winds.
The Satara Ghats are also expected to witness intense rainfall activity during the next two days, increasing the risk of weather-related disruptions in hilly areas.
Mumbai remains on alert as the IMD has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places, accompanied by gusty winds of 60-70 kmph.
The city's coastal areas are expected to experience rough sea conditions, with residents advised to remain cautious.
Ratnagiri is likely to receive heavy rainfall at several places, with isolated heavy showers continuing over the next few days.
Sindhudurg may witness isolated heavy showers before rainfall intensity reduces.
Several parts of Vidarbha have been placed under a thunderstorm and lightning watch.
Akola, Amravati and Buldhana may experience heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.
Wardha and Washim are likely to see severe thunderstorms with winds of 30-40 kmph.
Nagpur may witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph.
Meanwhile, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani and Beed are expected to receive moderate rainfall.
The IMD has advised authorities and residents in affected districts to remain alert as heavy rainfall, strong winds and thunderstorms continue across Maharashtra.
Coastal and hilly regions are likely to remain the most vulnerable due to the combination of intense rain and rough weather conditions.
