More than 2.06 crore electors, accounting for 21.14 per cent of Maharashtra's previous voter base, have not been included in the draft electoral roll following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), state election authorities said on Monday, reported the PTI.
The draft electoral roll currently contains more than 7.71 crore voters, representing 78.86 per cent of the state's previous electorate of 9.78 crore.
The draft roll includes around 3.95 crore men, 3.75 crore women and 3,087 third-gender voters, the news agency reported.
According to election officials, a total of 2,06,88,487 enumeration forms could not be collected.
The category includes voters who were untraceable or absent from their registered addresses, had died, moved to another residence, registered elsewhere or had duplicate entries.
It also includes people who declined to complete and submit their enumeration forms.
Pune recorded the highest number of uncollectable enumeration forms at around 28.6 lakh, followed closely by Thane with approximately 28.5 lakh, as per the PTI.
Mumbai Suburban recorded around 26.5 lakh, while Nagpur had 14.43 lakh, Nashik 10.27 lakh and Mumbai City 9.5 lakh uncollectable forms.
Eligible voters whose names are missing from the draft electoral roll can file claims and objections between 31 August and 30 September.
Those seeking inclusion in the electoral roll can submit Form 6 along with the required declaration.
Objections to an existing entry can be filed through Form 7, while corrections to details such as name, address, age or gender can be requested using Form 8.
Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers will process claims, objections and notices between August 31 and October 29, according to the Election Commission's schedule, according to the PTI.
The final electoral roll for Maharashtra is scheduled to be published on November 4.
Voters who believe they are eligible but whose names do not appear in the draft roll have therefore been given an opportunity to seek inclusion or correct their details before the final list is published, the news agency reported.
