The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) schools recorded an overall pass percentage of 92.08 per cent in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations held in March 2026, officials said on Friday.
The SSC results were announced on May 8, 2026 afternoon by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE).
According to the BMC Education Department, a total of 15,903 students from 246 municipal secondary schools appeared for the examination, out of which 14,644 students passed.
This year, 77 BMC schools achieved a 100 per cent pass result, while 66 students secured more than 90 per cent marks.
Officials said the results reflect consistent academic improvement in civic-run schools across Mumbai.

Swayam Shekhar Goregavkar from Sitaram Mill Compound Secondary School in G South Ward emerged as the top-performing student among all BMC schools by scoring 97.60 per cent marks.
Second position was secured by Ashiya Zakir Sayyed from D N Nagar Mumbai Public School in K West Ward with 96.20 per cent marks.
Third place was jointly secured by Deepak Arun Tiwari from Prabhadevi Mumbai Public School and Jinal Haresh Sumesara from Gokhale Road Mumbai Public School, both scoring 95.80 per cent.

The BMC highlighted that municipal schools have maintained strong SSC performances over the past four years.
- 2023: 84.77 per cent
- 2024: 91.56 per cent
- 2025: 92.92 per cent
- 2026: 92.08 per cent
Officials said several academic initiatives contributed to the improved performance of students.
The BMC Education Department introduced its own "Mission Merit" practice booklets to help students prepare effectively for examinations.
Students were also given practice tests based on board examination patterns, while officers adopted schools to provide regular guidance and monitoring.
Monthly review meetings, lectures for teachers and students, and coordination between parents, teachers and school administrators were also conducted to improve academic outcomes.
Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde, Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi, Education Committee Chairperson Rajeshree Shirwadkar and BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide congratulated the successful students, teachers and parents.
The BMC General Body also applauded the achievements of students and the efforts of the Education Department.
