Illegal constructions in the ecologically sensitive Yeoor forest area, alleged irregularities in the transfer of tribal lands and unauthorised hoardings across Thane city were among the key issues raised by a Congress delegation during a recent meeting with Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao.

The delegation, led by Vikrant Chavan, met Rao and held discussions lasting nearly an hour, urging the civic administration to initiate investigations and take strict action against those found violating the law.

During the meeting, Congress representatives expressed concern over the alleged increase in constructions in the Yeoor forest area surrounding Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

They alleged that large bungalows were being constructed at the cost of the region's natural environment and ecological balance. The delegation demanded a detailed inspection of both authorised and unauthorised constructions and concrete measures to prevent further environmental degradation.

Another major concern raised was the alleged illegal transfer of tribal land. The delegation claimed that certain political leaders, government officials and influential builders had cheated tribal residents and transferred their land into their own names. It demanded an impartial investigation into the transactions and strict legal action against those found guilty.

The Congress representatives also highlighted the issue of unauthorised hoardings at several locations within Thane Municipal Corporation limits. They urged the civic body to conduct a citywide survey, identify illegal installations and take action against those responsible.
