The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather bulletin warning of a mix of rain, thunderstorms, and persistent heat across several districts of Maharashtra on Sunday.
The weather bureau has placed multiple districts under a yellow alert, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, moderate rainfall, and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph at isolated places.
A yellow alert has been issued for Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, and Beed.
Thane, Mumbai, Jalgaon, Hingoli, and Nanded are expected to receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers, the IMD said.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has warned of hot and humid conditions in isolated pockets of North Konkan, even as thunderstorm activity continues across parts of the state.
It said thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rain, and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are very likely at isolated places in North Konkan, North Central Maharashtra, and Marathwada.
In addition, heavy rain with similar wind speeds is likely at isolated locations in South Konkan-Goa and South Central Maharashtra.
Despite intermittent rainfall warnings, Maharashtra continues to experience intense heat in several regions.
North Maharashtra remained among the worst affected, with Malegaon recording 42.0 degrees Celsius and Jalgaon 41.6 degrees Celsius.
Ahmednagar registered 39.0 degrees Celsius, while Aurangabad recorded 39.7 degrees Celsius. Beed and Nashik also remained hot at 39.2 degrees Celsius and 36.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Marathwada continued to reel under intense heat, with Osmanabad at 37.1 degrees Celsius, Parbhani at 38.5 degrees Celsius and Udgir at 35.5 degrees Celsius.
Konkan and coastal Maharashtra recorded comparatively moderate temperatures but high humidity levels. Dahanu recorded 38.1 degrees Celsius, Harnai 36.2 degrees Celsius and Ratnagiri 33.9 degrees Celsius.
Mumbai continued to experience warm and humid conditions, with the Island City at 36.0 degrees Celsius and the suburbs at 35.5 degrees Celsius.
Western Maharashtra also continued to sizzle, with Sangli at 36.0 degrees Celsius, Satara at 36.7 degrees Celsius and Solapur at 38.6 degrees Celsius.
Mahabaleshwar provided relief from the heat, recording 29.3 degrees Celsius, emerging as the coolest location in Maharashtra.
Meteorological observations indicate a highly variable weather pattern across Maharashtra, with heatwave-like conditions persisting in interior regions while coastal and ghat areas remain vulnerable to thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.
