No respite from heat in Maharashtra: Vidarbha districts record temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius

Brahmapuri in Chandrapur district sizzled at 44.2 degrees Celsius on Thursday, making it the hottest place in Maharashtra. Several parts of Vidarbha also reported temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, signalling widespread heatwave-like conditions across the region.

Vidarbha belt remains the hottest region

Nagpur recorded 42.6 degrees Celsius, while Wardha recorded 42.5 degrees Celsius. The mercury reached 42.9 degrees Celsius in. Gondia and Yavatmal crossed 41 degrees Celsius. Chandrapur also remained extremely hot, touching 41 degrees Celsius. Washim and Buldhana stayed close to the 39-40 degrees Celsius mark as heat intensified across eastern Maharashtra.

Mumbai and Konkan see comparatively moderate heat

In contrast, Konkan and parts of Central Maharashtra experienced relatively milder conditions. Mumbai City recorded 35.6 degrees Celsius, while the mercury stood at 34.7 degrees Celsius in the suburbs. Ratnagiri and Alibag remained in the mid-30s range, offering some relief from the inland heat.

Pune, north Maharashtra also witness rising temperatures

Pune registered 37.8 degrees Celsius, while Jalgaon in north Maharashtra touched 40.8 degrees Celsius, indicating that rising heat is spreading beyond Vidarbha. Lonavala and nearby ghat regions also recorded mid-30s temperatures.

Mahabaleshwar remains coolest in state

Mahabaleshwar stood out as the coolest location in Maharashtra, with a minimum temperature of 18.3 degrees Celsius, sharply contrasting with the extreme heat prevailing across most of the state.

Weather experts noted that the sharp temperature rise across Vidarbha is typical for early June.

Mumbai records good air quality

Following the showers of the previous days, Mumbai's air quality remained in the 'satisfactory' category on Thursday.

According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) SAMEER app, the city's Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 51, indicating minimal impact on public health.

Air quality varied across different parts of the city, with most monitoring stations recording AQI levels in the good to satisfactory range.

Bandra Kurla Complex recorded an AQI of 54, Borivali 48, Byculla 62, Andheri 34, Chembur 44, Colaba 47 and Ghatkopar 61.

The city woke up to a warm and humid morning. According to the IMD, the island city experiences a minimum temperature of 29 degrees Celsius at the Colaba observatory, while the maximum temperature was recorded at 28 degrees Celsius.
