The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple rain alerts across Maharashtra for Friday, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, strong winds and thunderstorms in several districts.
According to the IMD's latest district-wise forecast issued at 12:22 pm, the ghats of Pune remain the only region in the state under a red alert, with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations. The weather agency has also forecast strong winds reaching 50-60 kmph, gusting up to 70 kmph in the region.
The IMD has placed Palghar, Thane, Raigad, the ghats of Nashik and the ghats of Satara under an orange alert for Friday.
The weather office has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places in these areas, accompanied by occasional strong winds of 50-60 kmph, gusting up to 70 kmph.
Mumbai remains under a yellow alert, with the IMD predicting heavy rainfall at isolated places along with occasional strong winds reaching 50-60 kmph and gusting up to 70 kmph. A similar warning has been issued for Ratnagiri, where heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places.
The IMD said Sindhudurg is likely to witness moderate rainfall on Friday, while heavy rainfall at isolated places is expected on Saturday and Sunday. Raigad is likely to continue receiving heavy rainfall over the next few days before conditions gradually ease.
In Nandurbar and Nashik, the weather department has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph at isolated places.
Districts including Dhule and Jalgaon are expected to receive light to moderate rain and thundershowers, while Pune city is likely to witness moderate rainfall.
The weather agency has cautioned that heavy rainfall may lead to localised flooding in low-lying areas, flash floods, disruption to road, rail, air and ferry services, waterlogging, rough sea conditions, landslides in vulnerable areas, and damage to crops and weak structures.
Residents have been advised to check traffic updates before travelling, avoid flood-prone areas and stay away from vulnerable structures during periods of intense rainfall and thunderstorms.
