Several parts of Vidarbha continued to experience intense heat on Saturday, with Akola recording the highest maximum temperature in Maharashtra at 43.3 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletin.
According to the weather department's observations, Vidarbha remained significantly hotter than most other regions of the state, while coastal districts experienced comparatively milder conditions.
Akola emerged as the hottest location in Maharashtra with a maximum temperature of 43.3 degrees Celsius, followed closely by Chandrapur at 42.4 degrees Celsius and Brahmapuri at 43.2 degrees Celsius.
Other major temperatures recorded across Vidarbha included:
- Wardha: - 43.0 degrees Celsius
- Nagpur: - 41.6 degrees Celsius
- Amravati: - 41.4 degrees Celsius
- Yavatmal: - 40.6 degrees Celsius
- Washim: - 40.4 degrees Celsius
- Gondia: - 40.3 degrees Celsius
- Buldhana: - 39.5 degrees Celsius
The figures indicate that much of the region remained above the 40 degree mark despite expectations of changing weather patterns ahead of the monsoon season.
In contrast, Mumbai recorded a maximum temperature of 36.0 degrees Celsius in the city, while Santacruz in city's suburbs registered 35.5 degrees Celsius.
Elsewhere in the Konkan region:
- Dahanu: - 38.1 degrees Celsius
- Alibag: - 36.8 degrees Celsius
- Ratnagiri: - 33.9 degrees Celsius
The coastal influence helped keep temperatures lower than those observed across the state's interior districts.
Mahabaleshwar reported Maharashtra's lowest minimum temperature at 19.9 degrees Celsius, providing a sharp contrast to the hot conditions prevailing in Vidarbha.
Several locations in western Maharashtra also witnessed comparatively pleasant mornings, with minimum temperatures remaining in the low twenties.
The IMD has forecast a mainly clear sky becoming partly cloudy towards the afternoon or evening. The forecast also indicates the possibility of thunder activity, lightning and gusty winds in some areas.
Rainfall activity remained limited across most parts of Maharashtra during the observation period, although isolated showers were reported at a few locations.
Experts suggest that the interior regions, particularly Vidarbha, are likely to continue experiencing hot daytime conditions until widespread pre-monsoon rainfall becomes more active.
Citizens have been advised to remain hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours and take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
