Just a day after mid-day highlighted Santacruz East residents' daily plight dealing with crows and rats due to an illegal open dumping spot in Kadamwadi, near Nagrik Stores, the spot in question was inspected and cleaned by the workers of the H East ward of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
While the civic body cleans up the area routinely, residents had stated that repeated efforts to arrive at a permanent solution along with the authorities have gone in vain. But on Thursday morning, officials from the civic body came to the site to assess the severity of the situation.
mid-day contacted the officials who were present at the inspection to ask inquire about further maintenance plans, but did not receive a response by press time.
Ivan Pais, a resident of the area, who was actively flagging the situation to the BMC for the past two years, said, "The authorities came with the pest control department officials, which seems like a step in the right direction. I am hoping that the authorities and we residents can come up with a collaborative solution to the issue which can be maintained and managed by all of us as well." In the photos shared by the authorities, workers could be seen going the extra mile to rid the road of discarded trash.
