Relatives gather for actor Mukesh Rawal's funeral in Kandivli

The probable suicide of well-known Gujarati actor Mukesh Rawal (66) will now be investigated based on the CCTV footage available at Kandivli railway station. The GRP at Borivli said that they were viewing every detail of the footage. "We have not got any complaint from the family, and the motorman, too, has stated that Rawal had been run over. So, now, we are carrying out our investigations on the basis of the CCTV footage available," said a GRP official.

The actor -- who was known for his role as Vibhishan in the Ramayan TV series of the 90s -- apparently lay down on the tracks of Kandivli station. His body was found on the morning of November 15 while his family learnt about it on November 16. The cops claim that they haven't found any note or a mobile phone (which he had left at home) and so the reason behind the suicide is unclear. Rawal owns a bungalow near Orlem Church in Malvani, which is being redeveloped, so the family is currently staying in a rented flat in Kandivli.

Rawal has worked in many famous TV serials, Gujarati stage shows and movies.

Naman Shaw (co-star from Beend Banoongaa Ghodi Chadhunga): "Yes, I remember Mukul Rawal sir. Although I was on the show for a brief period, I remember chatting with him about shooting for a show called Ramayan. He would share his experience and how the earlier shooting times without much amenities were so difficult and how actors now don't have much to complain about."

Sanjay Chhel, writer-director said, "Rawal produced and acted in my first Gujarati play, Prakarn 1956. I started my career with him. Later, we did several Gujarati TV serials together. He had an amazing memory. If any actor did not turn up for the show, he would go through the script and be the replacement within an hour. It's sad how he went."
