A Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) CNG bus hit a road divider after the driver allegedly swerved to avoid a motorcyclist who suddenly came in front of the vehicle in Borivali East late on Sunday night, officials said.

The incident took place at around 11.20 pm near Daulat Nagar bus stop while the bus was travelling from Vaishali Nagar to Borivali (East).

According to the accident report, the motorcyclist entered the bus's path from the left lane without warning.

In an attempt to avoid a collision, the driver turned the steering wheel to the right, causing the bus to strike the divider and become lodged on it.

A towing vehicle was later called to remove the bus, which was taken back to the Magathane depot.

No injuries reported

No injuries to passengers, the bus crew or other road users have been reported in connection with the incident.

The extent of damage to the bus has not been disclosed.

Police begins probe

Officials said no case had been registered at Kasturba Marg Police Station at the time of the report.

A Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) recorded the details of the bus driver and conductor and informed them that they would be contacted if required during the inquiry.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under review.
