A day after a tree collapsed onto a school bus in Chembur, doctors at Zen Hospital have shared encouraging updates regarding the injured children, confirming that all of them are expected to recover completely without any long-term physical complications.
"Manika Sahini, who underwent surgery on her hand on June 30 after suffering finger injuries, is recovering well and is likely to be discharged by Thursday," said Dr Roy Patankar, director.
The two boys injured in the incident - Ganeev Sahini and Yuvan Gehlani - have sustained spinal fractures. However, doctors said the fractures are stable and benign, eliminating the need for surgery.
"Both children will remain on strong medication and undergo advanced physiotherapy for at least six weeks before regaining full mobility. They are currently experiencing severe back pain due to the impact, but we are optimistic that neither child will suffer any permanent physical disability," said Dr Patankar.
Doctors have also recommended psychological counselling after the children recover physically to help prevent post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
"At present, their scans and response to treatment are very encouraging. We do not foresee any long-term physical medical problems. The focus now is on pain management, rehabilitation through physiotherapy, and ensuring their emotional recovery in the weeks ahead," a treating doctor said.
