Problems

Constant traffic jam

There is a perennial traffic jam and very narrow path near Kandarpada RTO office and also very low bus frequency. Also, the road is very small and obstructed so passersby have major problems going and coming. There are hardly any buses plying to more areas from the RTO and waiting time is very long. Please do see if a remedy can be found.

Please restore bus service

We request the BEST authorities at Kurla/Santacruz East Depot to kindly restore the BEST Bus route no. 413 [Between Santacruz East station and Kunchi Kurve Nagar, Kalina at the earliest. The temporary discontinuation of BEST Bus route 413 due to cement roadwork at the Kunchi Kurve Nagar lane has left thousands of residents stranded.

Thank you, mid-day for supporting and raising citizen's voices and kudos to BMC for swift action in public interest. Pic/IQBAL GILANI MANSURI

Now that the road concreting work is complete and fully motorable, the BEST undertaking must urgently restore this vital transit loop route 413. Without it, daily commuters, office goers heading to the adjacent Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), and students at Mumbai University are being fleeced by autorickshaws or forced to walk long distances. Kindly help out struggling citizens.

Too many potholes

We request that Suhasini Pawaskar Road from Vaishali Nagar to Konkani Pada in Dahisar East be fully concreted. We are fed up of the endless potholes problem here.

Piles of garbage on tracks

While moving from Bandra East to West one can notice piles of garbage and debris lining the unused railway tracks. Also, there is a very low frequency of buses coming towards and leaving the station from the east side. There are dilapidated structures on/near roads/nullahs leaving very little scope for proper parking.

Responses

After Mumbaikars sent in their questions and woes to mid-day last Monday, some of the authorities concerned responded. We haven't given up on the rest. We shall continue to hold authorities accountable for the state of the city.

Road cave-in

Reader: Iqbal Gilani Mansuri
BMC responds: Officials told mid-day, "All complaints can be made by citizens on the MARG (management and redressal of grievances) portal of BMC, with accurate details of the problem, photograph with geo-tag. Complaints that actually highlight genuine problems and concerns are always addressed on priority."

Bus route

Reader: Priya Tamhane
TMT responds: The authorities will explore the possibility of restoring the route if it is found feasible in the present circumstances. Besides feasibility, multiple factors like route patronisation, fleet position and other things need to be considered for restoration.

Roof on FoB, please

Reader: Shailesh N Purohit
Engineers respond: The authorities have only replaced the older BMC east-west connectivity bridge, which was in disrepair, with a newer bridge. The earlier bridge too did not have any roof as is standard practice for all BMC bridges across the city to discourage hawkers and other elements. However, in addition to that bridge, the railways have also built a seamlessly linked fully-covered bridge for ticketed passengers. Provision for a ticket office cabin and ATVM machines has also been made on it.

Garbage pile-up

Reader: Iqbal Gilani Mansuri
BMC responds: BMC said it started implementing new Solid Waste Management Bye-laws on April 1, and penalises a wide range of acts that affect cleanliness, public health, and the environment, including littering, spitting, open defecation, feeding animals or birds in ways that create nuisance, washing vehicles or utensils in public and failing to keep one's premises clean.

Broken pavements

Reader: Iqbal Gilani Mansuri
BMC responds: Yashodhar Phanse, the corporator from the area told mid-day, "A lot of work is done on a daily basis. My party workers and my personal staff take inspection rounds of my ward 59 every morning, and alert me to issues, which are immediately repaired or redressed."
