Several protesters gathered at Chaityabhoomi in Dadar in support of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest were detained by Mumbai Police on Monday, sources said.
According to sources, some protesters were reportedly injured during the police action. However, the exact number of those injured or detained has not yet been confirmed.
When contacted, a senior Mumbai Police official said, the organisers had not obtained permission to hold the protest.
Officials said that the action was taken after the gathering took place without the required approval.
The detained protesters were taken to Shivaji Park Police station in Central Mumbai, sources said.
Officials have not yet released details regarding the identities of those detained or whether any cases have been registered.
Police remained deployed in the area to monitor the situation and maintain public order.
