Mumbai: Borivli car lift collapse kills technician, injures delivery worker; FIR pending

Recently, in a similar tragic accident at the Om Prathamesh Society building in IC Colony, Borivli West, a car lift collapsed, killing one worker and seriously injuring another. The incident occurred between 10.30 and 11 am, under the jurisdiction of the MHB Police Station.

According to police, the car lift gave way suddenly. One person, Shivam Dhuria, 24, a lift technician from Naigaon, sustained severe head and spinal injuries and was declared dead on arrival at Shatabdi Hospital. The second victim, Sanchit Yadav, 46, is undergoing treatment for multiple injuries.

Shivam Dhuria, originally from Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, had worked with a reputable lift manufacturing company for the past year and a half. He had come to the building for routine maintenance of the lift. Dhuria was the only son of his mother, who lived alone in their native village. His father had passed away during Dhuria's childhood, and his sister had been married for a few years.

Sanchit Yadav, a resident of Carter Road, Borivali East, works at a plywood supply shop in Borivali West. He had arrived to deliver 12 pieces of plywood ordered by a flat owner for furniture work. Yadav told mid-day, "I was asked to place the plywood on the car lift. Suddenly, the lift collapsed, and I fell with it. I had no idea someone was under it."

Following the accident, the MHB Police, the fire brigade, and local authorities reached the spot. A spot panchnama was conducted, and an inquest panchnama was carried out at Shatabdi Hospital, where Dhuria's relatives identified the body.

The cause of the lift collapse remains unknown. Police have confirmed that an FIR is being registered, and action will be taken based on the findings. "This incident reflects negligence, and we will act as per the law," said an officer from the MHB Police Station.

The building is currently unoccupied, as it is still under the developer's control. The flats were set to be handed over soon, and final preparation work, including lift checks, was ongoing. Senior Inspector GB Pawar of the MHB Police Station said, "The process of registering an FIR is underway."
