The accused blamed the neighbour for passing on information to his wife’s stalker, assaulted him and even paraded him with nine others; sent to judicial custody

Thou shall not covet your neighbour's wife, says the Bible, but 26-year-old Avinash Adhav faced the ire of a husband who believed that Adhav had helped his friend covet his wife. The Colaba police has arrested nine people, including the main suspect, Manoj Raut (32), on charges of kidnapping, physically assaulting, stripping Adhav to his skivvies and parading him around the neighbourhood, all the while filming the entire incident.

The incident
The incident occurred when Raut felt suspicious of Yogesh Bhagat, Adhav's friend, loitering near his house in Colaba on several occasions. Last week, Raut finally confronted Bhagat. Not satisfied with his responses, he enquired around. He found out that Adhav, who lived close by, was Bhagat's friend and could be feeding him the information about his wife. He then decided to teach him a lesson.

Assaulted and filmed
On August 3, at around 8:30 pm, when Avinash was on the way home, Manoj's friends Satyawan Tandel (33) and Robert Fernandes (31) asked him to come to Manoj's house. Here, the others identified as Vikas Raut (32), Hemant Dhanu (30), Tejas Raut (23), Bharat Raut (26), Moreshwar Waydande (29) and Narendra Chaugule (31) were already present. Adhav was then physically assaulted and questioned about Bhagat. However, when Adhav denied all allegations, they stripped him of his clothes except the undergarments.
