Deven Jain after sustaining injuries in the demolition site incident
A 17-year-old first-year undergraduate student of SK Somaiya College, Deven V Jain, sustained severe injuries on Tueday after an iron rod flew from a nearby demolition site and struck him on the head. The incident occurred around 3.30 PM while he was walking towards the Vidyavihar railway station.
The accident occurred during ongoing road-widening work near the station, where civic workers were demolishing a shop. Construction is currently underway in the area for the Vidyavihar East-West flyover bridge.

Jain was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital, Ghatkopar East, for emergency medical treatment, where doctors administered more than 15 stitches to his head. He remains admitted at the hospital under medical observation for a detailed neurological assessment to rule out internal injuries.

After the incident, Chedda wrote to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Municipal Commissioner and the ward officer, pointing out the lack of barricading at the site. In his letter, he wrote, "Any kind of barricading will prevent further such incidents from occurring, and I have written about the same to the civic authorities, and expect and hope that they soon take action to make demolition sites safer." mid-day contacted N ward official for on what action will be taken following the incident, but received no response by press time.

"The particular road is a very high-traffic one with pedestrians, and many college students using the road since SK Somaiya College is right around the road. Similarly, today a collge student was walking past the demolition site, and as the JCB hit one of the spots, an iron rod flew and hit the student on his head."
