Several parts of Mumbai and its neighbouring areas witnessed hot and humid weather conditions on Friday, May 8. As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures across the city rose above normal levels in many parts of the city.

IMD on Friday highlighted that the highest temperature in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region was recorded at Ram Mandir, where the mercury touched 38 degrees Celsius. Other areas also reported elevated temperatures, including Vikhroli at 37.4 degrees Celsius, Vidyavihar at 35.9 degrees Celsius, Bandra at 35.7 degrees Celsius and Dahisar at 34.6 degrees Celsius.

As per IMD, the Colaba Observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 34.4 degrees Celsius, while the Santacruz Observatory registered 35.5 degrees Celsius. Both weather stations reported no rainfall during the past 24 hours.

The weather agency further highlighted that the absence of rainfall, along with high humidity levels, contributed to uncomfortable weather conditions across the city and suburbs.

While the residents across the city experienced a warm afternoon, especially in eastern and northern parts of Mumbai, the weather in the next few days is expected to remain the same.

Despite the rise in temperatures, no rainfall activity was recorded in the city on Thursday. Furthermore, weather experts said that Mumbai is likely to continue experiencing warm and humid conditions over the next few days as the summer season intensifies across Maharashtra.

IMD issues yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar

Earlier on Friday, the IMD had also issued multiple weather alerts across Maharashtra over the next few days, warning of hot and humid conditions.

According to the forecast issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai on Friday afternoon, Mumbai, Thane and Palghar have been placed under a yellow alert from May 8 to May 10 due to persistent hot and humid weather conditions. Similar weather conditions are also expected in Raigad and Ratnagiri districts during the same period.

Orange alert issued for parts of Vidarbha

Several districts in Vidarbha have been placed under an orange alert due to the likelihood of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph. The warning is in effect for districts including Amravati, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Washim and Yavatmal on May 8 and May 9.

Akola is also expected to witness thunderstorm activity along with gusty winds of up to 50 kmph between May 8 and May 10. Similar thunderstorm warnings have been issued for Nagpur, Gondia, Wardha, Bhandara and Gadchiroli.

The IMD has advised people to avoid staying in open areas during thunderstorms and to remain away from tall trees, electric poles and water bodies during lightning activity.
