Six injured, 280 rescued after massive fire breaks out at commercial complex in Mumbai's Ghatkopar

At least six persons were injured while 280 others were rescued after a fire erupted in a nine-storey business park housing offices in Ghatkopar area of Mumbai on Monday, officials said, reported the PTI.

The blaze, which erupted at around 2:35 PM in the Goldcrest building located on LBS Road near Shreyas Talkies, was doused after more than four hours at around 7 pm, they said.

Several people were working in their offices when the incident occurred.

According to officials, smoke filled the building after the blaze broke out in the electric duct on the ground floor and spread to higher storeys.

While several people rushed out safely, some got stuck.

Fire Brigade personnel and other agencies safely rescued 280 people stuck on the terrace of the building through the stairs, officials added, according to the PTI.

At least six individuals sustained injuries as they jumped out of the windows of the building in panic, officials said.

While five persons were admitted to a civic hospital, another was taken to a private hospital. All of them took discharge against medical advice.

"Several emergency services were mobilised, including teams from the BMC's Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, Ward staff, 108 Ambulance services, and Adani Electricity to control the situation and ensure safety," said an official.

According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the incident was first reported at 2:35 pm, and the fire was officially declared Level-II at 2:58 pm.

Meanwhile, in an another incident, a level-1 fire broke out at a residential building located at Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Marg in Worli on Sunday.

According to officials, the fire was confined to the electric wiring, installations, clothes, plywood, furniture, and household articles inside a flat on the sixth floor of the 11-storey building. Furthermore, the thick smoke caused by the fire spread throughout the structure, prompting an immediate response from the fire department.

After over two hours, the blaze was successfully extinguished by 10:35 pm on Sunday.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) said that another separate fire incident was reported in Kurla on Monday.

The fire broke out at CST Road, Kapadia Nagar, near the Gurdwara in Kurla (West).

The fire, which was initially declared Level-1 at 2:43 am by the authorities, escalated to Level-II by 2:57 am. As per the MFB, the fire spread across a cluster of 15 to 20 galas (workshops) covering an area of approximately 3,000 sq. ft.

The blaze was confined to automobile spare parts, tyres, electric wiring, installations, scrap materials, and other items stored in partly ground and ground-plus-one structures.
