A fire broke out in a room on the eighth floor of a residential building in Goregaon West, Mumbai, on Thursday morning. No injuries were reported in the incident.
The incident was reported at around 6:20 am at Harmony Residency on New Link Road in Bhagatsingh Nagar No. 2, according to the Mumbai fire brigade.
The fire was confined to a room on the eighth floor of the G+8-storey building. Preliminary information indicated that the blaze was caused by a short circuit in an air-conditioning unit.
The fire brigade declared it a Level I fire at around 6:28 am and initiated operations to bring the situation under control. The fire was extinguished at 8.25 am.
Fire brigade personnel, police officials, the local electricity distribution company, a 108 ambulance team and BMC ward staff were mobilised following the incident.
There were no reports of injuries as of the latest information available.
Authorities are expected to assess the affected room and surrounding area to determine the extent of damage.
In a separate incident, a fire broke out in a residential building in Tilak Nagar area in Mumbai's Chembur, officials said on September 16. They said no injuries were reported in the incident.
The incident was reported at around 7.15 pm at Building No. 110, B Wing, Road No. 13 in Tilak Nagar.
According to the BMC's Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), the fire broke out in Room No. 402 on the fourth floor of the ground-plus-15-storey building, as per the news agency.
The blaze affected electrical wiring, electrical installations, the ceiling, wooden furniture and documents inside the room.
Fire brigade personnel reached the spot and began firefighting operations. The fire was brought under control and extinguished at around 8.01 pm using one small hose line.
Two fire brigade personnel wearing breathing apparatus (BA) sets were involved in the firefighting operation.
A total of 33 people were rescued from the building and shifted safely to the terrace as a precautionary measure.
The BMC's Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, the concerned electricity distribution company, 108 ambulance services and BMC Ward and Building and Factory (B&F) staff were mobilised following the incident.
The situation was brought under control by the fire brigade, with officials continuing to assess the affected premises.
