After an intense spell of rain across Mumbai in the last 24 hours, a couple of tree-fall incidents were reported in Dadar and Wadala. A large tree collapsed near Pritam Da Dhaba on Swami Gyan Jivandas Marg in Dadar East.
Similarly, another tree-falling incident was reported at Wadala's Antop Hill. The tree fell on the cars; however, the cars stranded underneath the trees were unoccupied; therefore, no injuries have been reported.
The incident occurred during an intense spell of rain that lashed Mumbai as monsoon activity strengthened across the city. The tree in Dadar was uprooted by the combined impact of waterlogged soil and gusty winds before crashing onto the parked vehicle.
The four-wheeler suffered extensive damage after being trapped under the fallen tree.
Following the incident, BMC's disaster management teams and fire brigade officials rushed to the spot shortly after to clear the branches. Acting swiftly, the officials quickly helped restore the traffic flow around the busy Dadar area.
The civic body personnel carried out clearance operations, removing branches and debris.
With Mumbai experiencing continuous rainfall and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing warnings of further heavy showers, civic authorities have reiterated their advisory urging residents to exercise caution during adverse weather conditions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) earlier on Wednesday issued a red alert for Mumbai, warning of extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, as the city has witnessed intense showers since the early hours of Tuesday.
Furthermore, various reports of waterlogging in several low-lying areas have disrupted road traffic during the early hours.
Among all monitoring stations, F/South Ward recorded the highest rainfall at 334 mm between 8 am on June 23 and 7 am on June 24. Other locations in the island city also reported exceptionally high rainfall figures.
Dadar Fire Station received 289 mm of rain, while Nair Hospital recorded 281 mm. Byculla Fire Station registered 265 mm, followed by Wadala Fire Station at 247 mm. Malabar Hill recorded 245 mm, while G/South Ward received 241 mm. Worli Fire Station reported 237 mm of rainfall, and the Storm Water Drains (SWD) Workshop in Dadar recorded 226 mm during the same period.
