According to the Khalapur police, "The Honda ford car bearing number MH-02-AT-6363 was speeding on the Pune lane and heading to Mumbai on Thursday around 6 pm. We believe the driver was in a race with another driver, this added to the incessant rains led to the car ramming into the road dividers skidding for 10 feet. The car had two women and one man onboard. They suffered a few injuries."

He added, "Ambulance was sent by IRB but the owners of the car chose to travel in a car in which their relatives were seated. The car was owned by Jayprakash Dhamecha, a resident of Khandiwali West. We towed the damaged car and cleared traffic on the road."
