The investigation into the alleged incident at the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) facility in Nashik has intensified, with a fresh First Information Report (FIR) registered and additional individuals coming under scrutiny. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kirit Somaiya said that nearly a dozen names have surfaced in connection with the case, indicating that the scope of the probe is expanding, reported IANS.
Speaking on recent developments, Somaiya said law enforcement agencies are actively pursuing multiple leads and that the investigation is "gradually gaining momentum." He also alleged that attempts were made to exert political pressure on the local police station during the early phase of the inquiry, reported IANS.
According to Somaiya, such pressure may have originated from individuals or affiliates linked to the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and the Samajwadi Party. However, he maintained that the investigation is now proceeding without interference.
His remarks came after he visited Agripada Police Station in Mumbai to meet officials in connection with a separate alleged harassment case involving a 19-year-old employee, which surfaced following the Nashik TCS incident.
"Another FIR has come to light, and around a dozen names have also come to the notice of the police. The investigation is gradually gaining momentum. There were attempts to exert political pressure on the local police station - whether from AIMIM or the Samajwadi Party - but the probe is now moving ahead swiftly," Somaiya told IANS.
Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the incident at the TCS facility in Nashik as a "very serious matter." Speaking on April 17, Fadnavis confirmed that the state government has initiated a comprehensive probe to determine the nature and origins of the controversy, reported ANI.
He emphasised that authorities have been directed to go beyond preliminary findings and conduct an in-depth investigation. While refraining from commenting on specific allegations - some of which have been described in certain quarters as "corporate jihad" - the Chief Minister said strict action would be taken if any organised wrongdoing or conspiracy is established, reported ANI.
Fadnavis also acknowledged the role of TCS management, stating that the company has taken cognisance of the issue and is cooperating with law enforcement agencies. He noted that the company's leadership has condemned the incident and is assisting investigators, reported ANI.
"The incident that has occurred at the Nashik TCS facility is a very serious matter. I would like to thank TCS for taking cognisance of it. The company leadership has condemned it and is cooperating with the police. We are trying to reach the root of the issue and are probing the matter thoroughly," he said, reported ANI.
