Mumbai local train murder: Dispute over train door turns fatal on Western Railway local

A 22-year-old salesman from Virar was fatally stabbed aboard a Western Railway local train after an argument over closing the coach door during heavy rain. The accused allegedly fled at Borivli station before being tracked by police. The incident has sparked concerns over commuter safety on Mumbai`s suburban network

A 22-year-old salesman was fatally stabbed in the abdomen aboard a moving Western Railway suburban train late on Monday night. The victim, Mayank Lohar from Virar, was travelling in the first-class coach of Train No. 90663, the Churchgate-Nallasopara fast local, when an argument broke out between him and a co-passenger identified as Roshan Suvarna, 30, over closing the coach door during heavy rain.

The altercation turned violent, and the suspect allegedly stabbed Lohar in the abdomen between Andheri and Borivli stations. The train arrived at Borivali Platform No. 6 at 11.04 pm; Suvarna, a Mumbai airport baggage handler and Panvel resident, fled before it came to a complete stop.

RPF and GRP personnel reached the injured passenger's coach by 11.07 pm. A stretcher, porter, and medical assistance team were on the spot by 11.10 pm, and Lohar was evacuated from the coach at 11.12 pm. He was brought to the Emergency Medical Room (EMR) at Borivli station at 11.22 pm, where he was immediately examined by the duty doctor. On medical advice, he was shifted by ambulance to Shatabdi Hospital, Kandivli, at 11.42 pm, accompanied by RPF and GRP personnel. The ambulance reached the hospital at 11.52 pm.

According to Lohar's family and friends, he was a sales executive at a fashion apparel shop in Andheri. He is survived by his parents and three siblings. Mayank's younger brother Mohit, 20, said twhen the family was first told about the incident on call, they thought it was a cruel prank, but then they got a call from Mayank's number confirming the incident. "He was a bright young graduate of finance and marketing. How did this happen to him? And the worst part nobody in that coach came to his rescue?"

10.42 pm: Train arrived at Andheri station. Lohar and Suvarna were travelling in the same coach

11.04 pm: Train arrived at Borivli Platform No. 6. Before this, the stabbing had occurred, and the accused had fled

11.07 pm: GRP and RPF personnel reached the coach and attended to Lohar

11.10 pm: Stretcher, porter (hamal), and medical assistance team reached the coach

11.12 pm: The injured passenger was carefully evacuated from the coach and shifted for emergency medical attention.

11.22 pm: The injured passenger was brought to the Emergency Medical Room at Borivli station.

11.22 pm - 11.42 pm: Railway staff coordinated medical evacuation arrangements.

11.42 pm: Lohar was shifted to Shatabdi Hospital, Kandivli, by ambulance

11.52 pm: Ambulance reached Shatabdi hospital, where Lohar was declared dead
