Mumbai local train update: MRVC completes 28 FOBs under trespass control project

The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd. (MRVC) while issuing an official statement on Sunday said that they have completed all works under its scope for trespass control measures on mid-sections of the Mumbai suburban railway network under MUTP-III.

As per the officials, the project was sanctioned at a cost of Rs 551 crore, and has achieved 100 per cent physical progress, according to MRVC.

Construction of 28 new FOBs completed

Under the project, MRVC has completed the construction of 28 new foot overbridges (FOBs), two FOB extensions, two linkways, one home platform and one subway. Fencing between Nahur and Mulund has also been completed as part of the trespass control measures.

Sunil G. Udasi, Chief Manager, Corporate Coordination, MRVC, said, "Under the project, 28 new Foot Over Bridges (FOBs), two FOB extensions, two linkways, one home platform, one subway and fencing between Nahur-Mulund have been completed by MRVC. The works under MRVC's scope were completed by February 2026."

Ongoing work

In addition to MRVC's works, boundary wall construction is being undertaken by Central Railway and Western Railway to further prevent unauthorised access to railway tracks.

Western Railway has completed 10.75 km of boundary wall construction, while Central Railway has completed 33 km.

The measures are aimed at providing safer alternatives for commuters and reducing the risk of track trespassing at vulnerable locations across the Mumbai suburban railway network.

With the completion of all works under its scope, MRVC has achieved the project's targeted 100 per cent physical progress.

Borivali-Virar rail expansion reaches 30 per cent progress, completion targeted by 2029

The Borivali-Virar 5th and 6th Lines Project has achieved 30 per cent physical progress, with the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd. (MRVC) targeting completion of the major capacity augmentation project by 2029.

The project under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project-IIIA (MUTP-IIIA) on the Western Railway suburban corridor has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 2,184 crore.

The officials, while briefing about the ongoing progress, said that significant progress has been made in land acquisition and statutory clearances for the project.

They also added that possession of 11.929 hectares of salt pan land at Umelman in Vasai has been obtained, while acquisition and statutory processes for the remaining land are under way. Forest and mangrove clearances have also been obtained.
