The Western Railway on Friday announced that it will operate two major night blocks on its suburban section between April 25 and 26 to facilitate infrastructure work, including the launch of girders for Metro Line-6 and foot overbridges.
A key block will be carried out between Ram Mandir and Jogeshwari for launching the steel girders of Metro Line-6. Work on the 6th line will continue for nearly 10 hours from 10:15 pm on April 25 to 8:15 am on April 26, Western Railway said.
In addition, a full block across all lines will be imposed between 1:45 am and 4:45 am on April 26.
Simultaneously, another block will be undertaken at Dahisar for launching girders of two foot overbridges.
This will affect multiple lines between 2:05 am and 4:05 am, with a shorter block on the up fast line.
Suburban train services will be partially cancelled and regulated during the block period.
The last Churchgate-Virar local at 1:00 am on April 25 will remain cancelled, with the 12:50 am service being the last train on the route.
On April 26, the first Virar-origin train will depart at 3:40 am and run only up to Goregaon in slow mode.
Railway authorities said a detailed list of cancellations will be available at stations.
Several long-distance trains will also be affected, with some being regulated by 20 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes, particularly between Surat and Virar.
A few trains, including services from Okha and Bhuj, will be rescheduled with delays of up to an hour.
Railways have urged commuters to check revised timings and plan their journeys accordingly, as the blocks are essential for infrastructure upgrades, including Metro Line-6 work.
Meanwhile, the Central Railway today announced that it will operate a mega block on its Harbour Line on Sunday to carry out essential engineering and maintenance work, disrupting suburban services on key sections.
Suburban services between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Bandra/Chunabhatti will remain suspended from late morning to evening.
Down Harbour services from CSMT towards Vashi, Belapur and Panvel, as well as towards Bandra and Goregaon, will be cancelled between approximately 11 am and 4:45 pm.
Similarly, up Harbour services towards CSMT from Panvel, Belapur, Vashi, Goregaon and Bandra will remain suspended during the block period.
Special services will operate between Panvel and Kurla at a frequency of 20 minutes during the block.
Passengers have been permitted to travel via the Main Line and Western Railway between 10 am and 6 pm.
Railway officials clarified that no mega block will be operated on the Main Line between CSMT and Kalyan on the same day.
Authorities said the block is necessary for infrastructure upkeep and safety, urging commuters to plan journeys in advance and bear with the temporary inconvenience.
