Train services briefly disrupted after woman run over near Virar: Officials

A woman died after she was allegedly run over by a train while crossing the railway tracks between Vaitarna and Virar, briefly disrupting suburban rail services, officials said on Thursday.

According to railway officials, the incident occurred near kilometre marker 62/15, where the woman was struck by Train No. 59024 Valsad Passenger.

Train detained for over 40 minutes

Following the incident, the Valsad Passenger was detained from 8.25 am as railway staff from Virar rushed to the spot to carry out rescue and clearance operations.

After the body was removed from the tracks, the train resumed its journey at 9.07 am.

Investigation underway

Railway officials said the woman was allegedly crossing the tracks when the accident took place. Her identity was not immediately known.

Further investigation into the incident is underway.
