Mumbai: Kurla court convicts three in two Mankhurd cases dating back to 2013 and 2017

The Kurla Sessions Court has convicted three accused in two separate cases registered by Mankhurd police, with the cases dating back to 2013 and 2017. As per the official statement issued by Mankhurd Police, the accused have been sentenced after the prosecution presented strong evidence before the court.

The cases were heard before the Metropolitan Magistrate, Court No. 52, Kurla, Mumbai.

Court sentences the accused for two-year jail term in 2013 case

The first case relates to an incident reported on June 1, 2013, when a dispute over a minor issue allegedly led the accused to enter the complainant's house. According to the police, he allegedly outraged the woman's modesty, assaulted her husband, and abused them.

Following the complaint, Mankhurd Police registered the case under Sections 452, 354, 323, and 504 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

On September 1, 2026, the court convicted Chhotelal Katiwaru Gupta, 41, a driver and resident of Sonapur, Mankhurd.

Gupta was sentenced to two years' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 354 IPC. He was also sentenced to two years' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 452 IPC and three months' imprisonment with a fine of Rs 1,000 under Section 323 IPC.

Two convicted in 2017 sharp weapon attack

In the second case, a parking dispute turned violent in the early hours of October 1, 2017. According to the police, a dispute erupted over a motorcycle parked in the area at around 1:45 am. The accused allegedly abused the complainant before attacking him with a sharp weapon, causing an injury to his abdomen.

Mankhurd Police registered the case under Sections 323, 324, 504, and 34 of the IPC.

On September 2, 2026, the court convicted Shankar Motiram Sonawane, 26, and Vishal Prabhakar Valvi, 26, both residents of Mankhurd.

The court sentenced the two accused to six months' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 under Section 324 read with Section 34 IPC. They were also sentenced to one month of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 under Section 323 IPC.
