Mumbai metro team carries out swift operation amid heavy rain (Pic/X)
Services on Maha Mumbai Metro Line 2A were restored to normal after a temporary technical issue between Dahisar East and Kandarpada stations led to operational irregularities on Saturday, July 5, amid heavy rainfall across Mumbai and suburbs.
Officials from the Maha Mumbai Metro highlighted that they had informed commuters that a technical fault had affected operations on a section of the corridor. While services were not suspended, temporary changes were introduced to ensure passengers could continue their journeys.
Acting swiftly, the Maha Mumbai Metro team launched a war-footing operation to address the technical glitch caused by heavy rains and resolved it within a short time. During this period, to minimise inconvenience to passengers, Metro service continued uninterrupted on the alternate line while repair work was underway on the affected route.
According to Maha Mumbai Metro, trains between Andheri West and Dahanukarwadi continued to operate normally. On the Dahanukarwadi-Dahisar East section, services were run on a single-line bi-directional operation, allowing trains to move in both directions on the unaffected track with regulated movement.
The operator had advised commuters that although metro services remained operational across the corridor, they might experience additional waiting time due to the temporary arrangement.
The officials further highlighted that technical teams were immediately deployed to the location and worked on a priority basis to restore normal operations despite the challenging weather conditions.
The operator later confirmed that the technical issue had been fully resolved and that normal two-track operations on Metro Line 2A had resumed.
"Maha Mumbai Metro teams responded immediately and worked on a war footing to resolve the technical issue that arose during heavy rainfall, restoring services within a short span of time," the operator said in a statement.
To minimise inconvenience to passengers, metro services continued to run on the unaffected track while repair work was carried out on the affected section.
The officials further added that the technical personnel reached the site soon after the fault was reported and undertook restoration work with safety as the highest priority.
The brief disruption came as Mumbai continued to receive heavy rainfall, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert for the city and adjoining areas, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated spells of extremely heavy rain over the weekend.
