Large section of road caves in on LBS Marg.
A road collapse disrupted traffic movements on LBS Marg in Bhandup (West) on Saturday afternoon, officials said.
A large section of the road caved in at an excavation site opposite Asian Paints, they said.
Despite the frightening scene, officials confirmed there were no casualties.
The incident was reported to authorities at around 1.25 pm, with an update issued at 2.40 pm. According to officials, the collapse took place at a location where excavation work was already in progress.
Officials said nearly a 100-foot by 100-foot portion of the road gave way. The collapse also caused trees standing at the site to fall.
One vehicle plunged into the excavation pit created by the road cave-in.
However, no casualties or injuries were reported.
Following the report, the S Ward civic team promptly reached the spot and initiated necessary safety and containment measures. The affected stretch was quickly barricaded to restrict movement and prevent any further accidents, especially given the unstable condition of the collapsed portion of the road. Civic officials also began monitoring the site closely to assess structural safety and prevent any secondary incidents.
In view of the hazard, motorists have been strongly advised to avoid the affected section of the road and take alternate routes until repair and stabilization work is completed. Authorities have also stated that the road will remain closed to traffic until it is declared safe for public use after thorough inspection.
As the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall over the Mumbai Metropolitan Region on Saturday, July 4, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) was forced to close several key roads after widespread waterlogging disrupted normal traffic movement.
Continuous rainfall led to the Mogra Nala overflowing, while several smaller drains connected to the drainage system also reached full capacity. With stormwater drainage systems under pressure, water accumulated across multiple low-lying stretches, slowing down traffic and worsening commuter hardship across the city.
