Mumbai University postpones July 6 exams amid heavy rain warning

The University of Mumbai has postponed all examinations scheduled for Monday, July 6, in view of heavy rainfall and weather warnings issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Examination and Evaluation Board said in a circular on Saturday.

The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students amid adverse weather conditions in Mumbai and surrounding regions, the university said.

It further stated that the revised examination schedule will be released shortly on its official website. Students have been advised to regularly check the university portal for updates.

"All examinations scheduled for July 6, 2026, conducted by the University of Mumbai are postponed keeping in mind student safety," the circular stated.

Heavy rain alert: Schools, colleges shut across Mumbai Metropolitan Region on Monday

With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing orange and red rain alerts for different parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, civic bodies and district administrations have declared a holiday for schools and colleges on Monday, July 6, as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students.

Mumbai schools, colleges to remain shut on Monday; offices to function as usual

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Education Department, in a circular issued on Sunday, announced that all government, private, municipal, aided, and unaided primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools, as well as colleges in Mumbai, will remain closed on Monday. The decision follows the IMD's orange alert for Mumbai, forecasting heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds.

The BMC has advised citizens to step out only if absolutely necessary and remain vigilant during periods of heavy rain. Government and private offices in Mumbai, however, will function as usual.

Thane declares holiday for anganwadis and schools on Monday

In neighbouring Thane district, District Collector Dr Shrikrishna Panchal declared a holiday for all anganwadis, balwadis, and government and aided primary and secondary schools on Monday. The order cited the IMD's forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall, with extremely heavy spells at isolated places, and the possibility of waterlogging in low-lying areas following continuous rainfall over the past two days.
