The Mumbai-Pune Missing Link project, touted as a game-changer for reducing travel time between the two cities, has come under scrutiny after potholes appeared on a newly opened stretch following heavy rainfall.
Concern was sparked after a motorist shared a video on Instagram showing potholes on the high-speed corridor, raising questions about the quality and durability of the infrastructure just weeks after its inauguration.
Confirming the incident, an MSRDC official said, "Due to heavy rainfall, two potholes developed on one of the carriageways of the Mumbai-Pune Missing Link on Thursday. The potholes were located near the expansion joint of the cable-stayed bridge. The contractor concerned and MSRDC officials were immediately instructed to carry out repair work, which was completed on priority."
The 13.3-km Missing Link, which bypasses a section of the Bhor Ghat stretch on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and reduces travel time between Pune and Mumbai by 25 to 30 minutes, was inaugurated on Maharashtra Day by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the presence of Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar.
