Mumbai rains disrupt Western Railway: Several outstation trains short-terminated, cancelled amid waterlogging

Heavy waterlogging caused by incessant rains has severely disrupted outstation train services on the Western Railway, particularly in the Mumbai Division. Several long-distance trains have been impacted due to waterlogging between Vasai Road and Virar stations.

Passengers are advised to expect delays and plan their journeys accordingly.

According to official updates from Western Railway and the Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Central, train services are operating on a skeletal basis in the affected section.

Short-terminated trains

Several long-distance trains have been short-terminated and will operate in the reverse direction from the following stations:

05183 Azamgarh-Bandra Terminus Special: Short-terminated at Sanjan (SJN).

19002 Surat-Virar Express: Short-terminated at Umargam Road (UBR).

12934 Ahmedabad-BDTS: Short-terminated at Valsad (BL).

12479 Jodhpur-BDTS: Short-terminated at Vapi.

12932 Ahmedabad-MMCT: Short-terminated at Surat (ST).

09705 Jaipur-BDTS: Short-terminated at Udhna (UDN).

12990 Ajmer-Dadar: Short-terminated at Navsari (NVS).

Cancelled and partially cancelled services

The following services have been cancelled or partially cancelled:

Train No 69174 Dahanu Road-Borivali: Short-terminated at Virar; cancelled between Virar and Borivali.

Train No 69139 Borivali-Valsad MEMU: Originating from Virar; cancelled between Borivali and Virar.

Train No 59045 Mumbai Central-Vapi: Fully cancelled.

Train No 59040 Vapi-Mumbai Central: Fully cancelled.

Local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and railway staff have been distributing water, biscuits, tea, and meals such as puri bhaji to stranded passengers at Palghar, Gholvad, Dahanu Road, Valsad, and Borivali stations.

Western Railway has expressed regret for the inconvenience and appealed to passengers to check live train status before travelling.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall has triggered landslides in the Bhor Ghat section between Karjat and Lonavala on the Central Railway, disrupting all three lines of the busy Mumbai-Pune route. Landslides were reported near Thakurwadi and between Khandala and Monkey Hill, leading to cancellation and diversion of several important trains including Indrayani Express, Deccan Queen, Deccan Express, Pragati Express, and others.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reviewed the disruption in the Mumbai-Pune Ghat section and directed officials of both Western and Central Railways to work as one team for earliest restoration of services.

"I have reviewed the situation arising out of heavy landslides and boulders falling onto the railway tracks in the Mumbai-Pune Ghat section. The team is fully geared up for restoration. I have asked officers of both Western and Central Railways to work as one team to ensure early restoration of all train services," Vaishnaw told PTI.

Railway authorities have appealed to passengers to check the latest train status before commencing their journey and use helplines for assistance.
