To reduce traffic snarls and prevent accidents on a narrow stretch in Dahisar, the Mumbai Traffic Police (West Region) has introduced temporary odd-even parking restrictions for the next three months.
The order, issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic, Western Suburbs) Ajit Bonhade, applies to the north-south road between Swagat Cooperative Housing Society and the main entrance gate of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown in Dahisar.
The road is narrow with residential buildings on both sides and sees two-way traffic. Heavy vehicles regularly enter and exit the FCI office and godown for grain transport, putting extra pressure on the route. Parking of two-wheelers and four-wheelers on both sides often causes bottlenecks, raising the risk of mishaps.
Under the new rule:
On even dates of the month, parking is allowed only on the east side of the road; parking on the west side is prohibited.
On odd dates, parking is permitted only on the west side; parking on the east side is banned.
The restrictions are effective immediately from the date of the notification (March 10) and will remain in force for three months. The measure is taken under powers granted by the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (Section 115), Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 (Rule 59), and relevant government notifications.
Violators may face action as per traffic laws, the notification stated. The police have appealed to the commuters in the area to follow the odd-even parking system to keep traffic smooth and safe. The Dahisar Traffic Division has issued the advisory to avoid inconvenience to residents and regular users of the route.
In a move aimed at reducing traffic congestion and preventing accidents, the Mumbai Traffic Police have issued a temporary notification prohibiting the entry of heavy vehicles and water tankers on several narrow roads in Borivali East. The notification, issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Western Suburbs, Ajit Borhade, will be in effect on a trial basis until April 28.

According to the notification, a large number of private water tankers coming to fill water at Mane Compound and Kaju Pada have caused serious traffic obstructions on these extremely narrow roads. Past incidents have also included accidents of serious nature, prompting authorities to take precautionary measures.
Exemptions
Vehicles engaged in essential services will be allowed at all times, including:
Delivery of vegetables, milk, bread, and bakery items
Gas and fuel tankers
Ambulances and fire brigade vehicles
Municipal Corporation vehicles providing essential services
Police vehicles
The traffic restrictions will apply every day from 8 am to 9 pm. The police have appealed to motorists to cooperate with them and use alternative routes to avoid inconvenience. Violations of this order may attract legal action under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and other applicable laws, the police warned.
