At least six people were injured after a container and a private bus collided on the connecting link of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Tuesday morning, officials said.
The injured passengers are being provided medical assistance. Further details about their condition are awaited.
According to preliminary information, following the accident, traffic on the Pune-to-Mumbai carriageway of the connecting link has been temporarily halted.
Vehicles were being diverted to the expressway via an alternative route before the connecting link, while authorities work to clear the accident-hit vehicles and other obstructions from the road, sources said.
Traffic moving towards Pune from Mumbai has not been affected by the accident and is moving normally, officials said.
The highway authorities were working to restore traffic on the affected stretch at the earliest, they said, adding that motorists have been advised to follow traffic police instructions and use the designated alternative route.
