Mumbai rains: Powai records 67.8 mm of rain in three hours; check area-wise figures

Heavy monsoon showers continued to lash Mumbai and neighbouring Thane on Saturday, with parts of the city recording intense amounts of rainfall in three hours, according to data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC).

As per the BMC's rainfall update, the highest rainfall on Saturday, July 4 between 8 am and 11 am was recorded at Paspoli Powai Municipal School, Powai (S Ward, Eastern), which received 67.8 mm of rain.

The eastern suburbs also experienced heavy rainfall during the seven-hour period. Paspoli Municipal School topped the list with 67.9 mm, followed by Vikhroli West (66.8 mm), Vikhroli Fire Station (63 mm), and Mithagar Municipal School in Mulund (57.8)

On the other hand, areas in the western suburbs also witnessed intense rainfall included HBT Trauma Hospital (51.8 mm), Versova WWTF (50.2 mm), Malwani Fire Station (44.8 mm), and the Banana lead and Juhu Dispensary (43.8 mm).

In the island city, rainfall was comparatively lower. The F-North Ward Office recorded the highest rainfall at 36.2 mm, followed by B Nadkarni Park Municipal School, Wadala (31 mm), Pratiksha Nagar Municipal School (29.4 mm), and Rawali Camp (27.4 mm).

Thane records 77.18 mm rainfall

Neighbouring Thane also received steady rainfall throughout the day.

According to the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation, the city recorded 77.18 mm of rainfall between Friday 8.30 am and Saturday 08:30 am.

The highest hourly rainfall during the period was recorded between 11.30 am and 12.30 pm, when 17.02 mm of rain was received, followed by 04.32 mm during the next hour.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a red alert over Mumbai, Thane and adjoining districts, with spells of moderate to heavy rainfall expected over the next couple of days.
