One person died and three others were injured after a gas tanker explosion at a welding garage in Mumbai's Mukund Nagar area of Chembur on Friday evening, officials said.
According to the police, the incident took place on July 17, 2026 between around 4:40 pm and 5 pm near the D1/2 HPCL building, within the jurisdiction of the RCF Police Station.
Following the incident, teams from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Fire Brigade (MFB), Mumbai Police, 108 Ambulance services, BEST and BMC ward staff were mobilised for rescue and relief operations.
The officials said that four people were injured in the explosion.
One of the injured victims was taken to Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital (Sion Hospital), where doctors declared the person dead.
According to preliminary information, welding work was being carried out on an empty gas tanker when it suddenly exploded.

Among those injured included two people who were carrying out the welding work. They sustained injuries in the explosion.
According to officials at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General (LTMG) Hospital in Sion, Mohammad Akram (19) was admitted and is in a stable condition, while Mohammad Faiyaz (48) received treatment and was discharged.
Hospital authorities stated that an unidentified man, aged around 50, was brought dead to the hospital following the explosion.
Officials have started further action and are investigating the circumstances that led to the explosion.

Meanwhile, in an another incident, a 20-year-old man was killed and three others were injured after a construction crane collapsed from the 13th floor of an under-construction building in Maharashtra's Thane district on Thursday.
The incident took place at the JP North residential complex in Mira Road (East).
Police identified the deceased as Mujammil Khokhar, 20.
Several vehicles were also damaged.
Police, Fire Department and other rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation, reported the ANI.
According to police, the crane was being used for construction work when it suddenly collapsed and fell into the residential complex below.
The crane struck several vehicles parked within the premises, causing extensive damage.
The incident also sparked panic among residents of the housing complex.
Police and fire brigade personnel reached the site shortly after the incident and launched rescue and relief operations.
The three injured people were taken to hospital for treatment. Their condition has not been disclosed.
