Mumbai: Three mechanics injured after plaster falls from ceiling at BEST's Majas depot

Three mechanics sustained injuries after pieces of plaster fell from the ceiling of a store-cum-rest room at the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking's Majas depot in Jogeshwari on Thursday morning, officials told news agency PTI.

The incident occurred around 6.45 am inside the depot premises when sections of plaster suddenly detached from the ceiling and fell on the workers.

The injured have been identified as Riyan Sheikh (19), Salman Khan (23), and Mujmadin Khan (20). All three were rushed to the Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari for treatment.

According to officials, the workers sustained minor injuries and were discharged after receiving primary medical treatment.

Further details regarding the cause of the incident are awaited.

Ceiling plaster falls inside 30-year-old Rabodi building, five shifted to safety

Last month, a portion of the plaster and false ceiling collapsed inside a residential flat in Rabodi, Thane, prompting authorities to evacuate the occupants as a precaution.

No injuries were reported in the incident, officials said.

According to the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Disaster Management Cell, the incident was reported at 1.04 am at Flat No 302 in C-Wing of Sai Deep Complex, located near the Senior Citizens' Corner and Kalavati Aai Temple in Rabodi No 2, Thane West.

Officials said the plaster and Plaster of Paris (POP) false ceiling in the hall of the third-floor flat suddenly gave way. The building is a ground-plus-four-storey residential structure, approximately 30 years old.

Soon after the incident, teams from the Thane Fire Brigade, along with personnel from the Disaster Management Cell and the Uthalsar Ward Committee, rushed to the spot with a fire engine, rescue vehicle and utility vehicle to assess the situation.

Acting on the instructions of Uthalsar Ward Committee Sub-Engineer Nitin Pradhan, officials evacuated the affected flat and sealed off the area with safety barricades to prevent any further risk.

The five residents of the flat have been temporarily shifted to their relatives' homes, while the Building Department of the Uthalsar Ward Committee will carry out a detailed structural inspection and decide on further action.

Sai Deep Complex's C-Wing houses 16 flats across five levels (ground plus four floors) and is home to around 60 residents. The incident was reported by the Rustamji Fire Station.
