An old bungalow partially collapsed in Mumbai's Walkeshwar area on Saturday morning, with three people rescued from the site without injuries, civic officials said.
The incident was reported from Walkeshwar Road in the Tin Batti area, opposite Anurag Building and near Jabareshwar Gully. According to preliminary information from the civic authorities, part of a ground-plus-two-storey structure collapsed onto a nearby chawl.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade received information about the incident at around 9.45 am, following which emergency personnel were mobilised to the location. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) subsequently received a distress call at around 10.23 am and coordinated the response with other agencies.
Teams from the fire brigade, police, ambulance services and the concerned civic ward were deployed at the site. Rescue personnel inspected the collapsed portion of the structure and the surrounding area to check whether anyone could have been trapped beneath the debris.
Officials said three people were rescued from the site. All three were reported to be unhurt, and there were no immediate reports of injuries or deaths.
The preliminary assessment indicates that some portion of the ground-plus-two-storey structure gave way and fell onto a nearby chawl. Emergency personnel continued to assess the affected area to determine the extent of the damage and ensure that the site was safe.
The condition and structural stability of the remaining portion of the bungalow are expected to be examined by civic officials. The authorities are also assessing whether the collapse caused damage to adjoining structures.
The exact cause of the collapse has not yet been established. Officials are expected to conduct further inspections to determine whether the incident was linked to the condition or age of the structure, or to other factors.
The emergency response involved multiple agencies, including the fire brigade, police, ambulance services and civic ward staff. The rescue operation was carried out as a precautionary measure after concerns that people could have been trapped under the debris.
